OK..... Newbie question........ I have a legit iPhone activated through AT&T However, I had it unlocked to accept my Rogers SIM card. Turns out...Rogers SUCKS and I don't have access to much of anything other than the phone. Long story short, I am using it as an AT&T phone exclusively now, but I want to update my version to 1.1.1 (I like to keep software current to take advantage of any fixes) I don't care if it disables the unlock...I won't be using it any more anyway...but will it mess up my legitimate subscription to and give me a brick? Any advice is appreciated.... Thanks, Tony |

My understanding of the situation is that the iPhoneSimFree unlock (which you would have had to pay for) won't result in your iPhone bricking if you update to 1.1.1 However, if you used the free unlock software, because of how the code was written, updating to 1.1.1 after unlocking with that method will brick your iPhone. Unfortunately, just relocking the iPhone doesn't clean up all the areas of the firmware that were modified. If you used the free unlock, you can choose from a couple of options: 1) purchase iPhoneSimFree(US$60), which corrects the bricking problem caused by the free unlock and also unlocks a 1.1.1 iphone 2) roll back the unlock that was performed on your iPhone (by running software created by iPhone Elite Team) and wait for the public (free) version of the unlock for 1.1.1 before you update. I hope that helps!! |
