Default iPhone Light edition?

I was wondering, if there was a "light" version of the iPhone to be made (for developing countries, teens, people that would like to get more of a budget priced, possibly subsidized iphone version with all the UI functionality), what do you think its differences would be against the "standard" iPhone?

My thinking is:

- #1 they could downgrade memory to what we see on most windows mobile powered cell phones (say 256mb) and offer an expansion slot for flash memory cards.
- #2 maybe downgrade the CPU a bit?
- #3 maybe a "light" iPhone OS X version (see #1 and #2).

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Why would they make a lite version when everybody is going to buy the regular version?

For the small price difference to the consumer, it would be just as well to get the standard(because we all know that a "light" version would not be too much cheaper...Maybe $50 if that). Plus, give it a few models and this will be the "light" version.

Because this way they could force themselves into the budget market as well. Just a smart strategic decision since it'd open up a lot of new market avenues for them.

i agree with denise, the iphone can only compete with other smart phones, but what about the Razrs and Krazrs and other junky mp3 phones. I think apple could come up with a phone that just played mp3s and it could be successful, hopefully it wouldn't flop like the Rokr.

I agree with everyone that replied. Why would they force to downgrade a product that is supposed to be a smartphone?
